What is Divestment?

Divestment is the process of removing an individual’s or institution’s investments from a company, companies, or industries that conflict with that individual’s or institution’s values.

What exactly do we want to divest from?

What constitutes divestment at an institution is somewhat open to interpretation. Some institutions, like Stanford, have committed to divesting from coal, but not other fossil fuels. We want Smith to divest from The Carbon Underground 200, a list of the top 200 fossil fuel companies created by Fossil Free Indexes, LLC.
